A sum of a few similar situations.
Ang Moh: Your name, please.
Me: Esther.
Ang Moh: Ah, you don't look like an Esther.
Me: Yes, I do!
Ang Moh: Oh, usually I'd imagine a black American 'aunt Esther' or 'grandma Esther'...
Me: (in my mind... FUCK YOU DAMN IT...!!!) Well, I'm definitely not black AND American AND either an aunt or a grandma. (fake smile as I say that)
A conversation in one of my class.
Ang Moh: What's your name?
Me: Esther.
Ang Moh: No, really...
Me: My name is Esther -.-'
Ang Moh: No, really... Come on.
Me: (WTF?!?) Yeah! My name is Esther. I didn't made it up. My parents gave it to me and it's in my birth cert. You wanna see my IC (or ID like how ang mohs say it) or not?
Ang Moh: Oh, no. Just cause I thought that you would have an Asian name.
Me: Yeah, I do. Just that no one calls me by my Chinese name and the only person that did is my great grandma who died more than 10 years ago and the only reason why she calls me by my Chinese name is because she can't pronounce Esther correctly.
Ang Moh: Btw, you look Japanese / Korean (I don't remember which one was mentioned but it's either Jap or Korean lah...)
Me: I know, but I'm not. I'm Malaysian Chinese. (Said out loud.. in my brain: And please don't ask me which part of China is that.)
*Look, before you guys get mad at me. I just want to say that everyone in this world stereotype everyone and if you think you haven't or don't do it, you just didn't realize it and does not mean you don't. What I'm writing in this post is just the stereotype I've experience with other people towards me. I do not admit that I don't do it too. So fuck off with your angry comments, assholes.
